For all operating systems, these DSL troubleshooting steps apply:

Unable to Connect:

  1. Please turn your computer completely off.
  2. Please turn your DSL modem completely off using the switch or by unplugging the DSL modem power adapter.
  3. Make sure that the phone line cable is not damaged.
  4. Make sure that the phone line cable is directly connected to the wall jack and your "Phone Line In" port of your DSL modem WITH NO DSL FILTERS IN BETWEEN THE PHONE JACK AND THE DSL MODEM!!!
  5. Make sure that the network cable ( the cable similar to a phone cable but with wider plugs on each end) is connected to the "Lan" port of the DSL modem and the network port of your computer.
  6. Restart the power to the DSL modem. Wait approximately 1 minute for the DSL modem to reestablish a DSL connection to the internet. Your DSL indicator light on your modem may be solid or blinking very rapidly.
  7. Restart your computer.
  8. Double check your network connection settings for the type of connection you have ( DHCP , PPPoE , or Static IP ). *Refer to the appropriate support areas for each of these connection types for more help.
  9. Attempt to connect to the internet in your usual way.

If these steps have not restored your connection, please review the troubleshooting sections below
for your operating system and make sure your connection settings are correct.

Please realize that the speed of a DSL connections depends on many things including the age and quality
of the phone lines running up to your home. Sometimes the wires themselves can only go so fast even though everything is working properly. Also, connections may become slower during peak usage hours.
